I'm having a similar problem.
I suspect that the transmission is putting a drag on the idle when in gear, dropping the rpms to stall. So I've upped the idle in neutral/park to around 1100 rpms. Thus when revs drop in drive/reverse, they remain above stall.
I don't think this is normal otherwise it would be mentioned to set idle higher than 750(?) during tune-up. (Presumably idle is set in park and not in drive.)
What I did notice on a long drive with the automatic, revs in drive seemed to drop lower. Maybe transmission fluid expanding causing higher pressures and more drag?
