1999 c70 Convert with top cursed by demons.

We own a 1999 c70 and hey, guess what? The electronic top is screwed up. We can barely raise and lower it manually. Wondering if it's possible to take out all the mechanics; gears and crap and make it totally manual OR will that screw up the integrity of the whole car.
