....we need to take the guns out of the equation.

FYI & I hate to burst anyones bubble who didn't know, but, the Australian gun scheme was a bunch of B.S. deployed by a master politician before an election after our only white on white gun massacre. (We certainly massacred a heap of aboriginals, but not with semi-autos). The short story is: no one had guns, generally speaking. I'm 50 and have never heard a gunshot in suburbia, only see and hear them at shooting ranges or when being aimed at feral animals in the bush or on farm land.

The only solution to your problem I can think of is to make schools a safe area surrounded by armed guards of ex-policemen standard. (No ex-military types who are generally suffering from PTSD) AND SEND THE BILL TO THE NRA.
