81 244 TV movie with Clint Black`s wife starring | Several years ago I had my wife`s green 81 244 in a made for TV movie which starred Clint Black`s wife. Can`t remember her name or the name of the movie. It came on TV several months later but it was SO bad I couldn`t watch anymore than 10 minutes. The Volvo looked good & the compensation was good + it was returned with a full tank of gas.
Anyone out there know the name of this really bad movie?

Civilisation BBC Sir Kenneth Clarke | On this 1960's BBC history series there is a very cool shot of a P1800 crossing the Clifton Suspension bridge in the UK. The cameraman zooms in on it too! It is in episode 13, "Heroic Materialism". There is also a posssible one in a long distance shot in Episode 6, "Protest and Communication", I believe. It is in the lower RH corner and the front wings look close to a P1800 but it could be a Karmmann Ghia, It is just too distant to tell. This set is now on DVD. |

Jindabyne | Great movie after Raymond Carvers short story. Carvers story is originally set in California ( and also a part in the 1993 Robert Altman Movie "Short Cuts"-another great movie )but "Jindabyne " is set in New South Wales in Australia.
In Jindabyne a darkgreen metallic 245 has one of the key "car caracteers" together with a silver Toyota Landcruiser Wagon and a really old yellow Toyota Landcruiser Pick Up.
The 245 is a 1981-1985 European style with "export" grille and hood but with. No emblems but it is probably a "EuropeanmGL. The original "Volvo 4 Stereo" ( a popular aftermarket-radio in Europe during early eighthies ) radio is also in a scene. |

Mr. Brooks | Kevin Costner drives a late 240 DL sedan throughout this movie and much of the dialogue takes place in and around this car. It's not a 92 or 93 since I think DL logo had been dropped by then. The headrests are removed making it hard to determine if it's 1989 or later by the presense of rear ones. No headrests makes sense in this flick since most of the time William Hurt is in the back seat and we need to see him too. The front seats, at least don't appear to be Volvo seats at all.
Even though it's a DL, it is fitted with Corona wheels, but otherwise it's a plane jane 244. I'm guessing they chose a 240 since his car is an important "set" in this psycho thriller and they wanted a car that isn't flashy, but distinctive and easy to spot on the street. |

I can't be sure if it was a 740 or a 760. The scene was a bit dark and they've only shown the side profile. All I know it was a 700 Series. Mind you, this is a movie from 1983, the 700 Series was introduced in 1982, so that would have been a very new car at the time.
Later on, the same KGB Agents are driving Renko in a Volvo 245 Estate to the meeting with Jack Osbourne (Lee Marvin) and Irina Asanova (Joanna Pacula).

Some of the other cars are a Range Rover, a Saab, but very interesting that they show an old, beat up looking Volvo in the movie. That means someone loves that car! There was shot of a cell phone with the Samsung/T Mobile logo on it. So I am guessing the folks at Range Rover and Saab paid some money to get their products in the movie. CSI Catherine Willows & Grissom were out in the desert, where the saw a smoke coming out from a far. It turned out to be a burned out Volvo 240 DL, and the cause of fire was believe to be from a Molotov Cocktail
In this scene, nearly all of the charred body of the car can be seen, the headrests, glovebox, & the doors can be easily identified as a Volvo

Önskas | Swedish movie from 1991. The main character, played by Rolf Lassgård, has an old Volvo 164 which is in bad shape and repeatedly breaks down. It´s somewhat a major plot element that his girlfriend, played by Marie Richardson, who he has actually met at a Volvo dealership and workshop, is trying to get the car started throughout most of the movie. The son of Lassgård´s character eventually points at some part of the engine and says "isn´t it that?" and she says "oh no, it couldn´t be" but she tries whatever it is, and the car finally starts. Comedy starring Bob Hope, Frankie Avalon, and Tuesday Weld. Since, as the title suggests, they end up in Sweden there is the odd P1800, but the best scene is when they are in a showroom in the States surrounded by an Austin Healey 3000, MG, Mercedes 230 SL, and a nice red P1800 - I think it was a '61-'63 model. Lasts for a few minutes as Frankie and Bob Hope converse. Even though it was not a Volvo there is a nice 300 series (64 -65?) Mercedes convertible that is driven around - nice car. |
