electrical system service required S80

I had similar problm recently due to weak/dead battery. With a new battery a message: SRS Urgent Service Required. Dealer acknoledged w. dead batteries this is bound to happen. They had to purge existing software and install a new one, $30 parts + 1 hr labor. I was told that you can not reset the system on your own to make the message go away after you remedy the problem w. new battery. It did take care of the problem for now, I am wondering if these two problems are similar/identical.
