One for an A/C tech: What's 'normal' for the A/C system? 850 1997

Recently noticed my A/C pump was cycling on and off every ten to twenty seconds when it was around 80F+. I thought the system was low, so I added a can of freon. Sorry that I didn't check the temp before adding the can, but afterwards it would get down to 38F. But the pump would continue to cycle on and off every ten to twenty seconds. I checked the pressure several days ago after driving it (80F outside temp), and on it was 24, off 45. A BB tech said 24 was on the low side and to add some. I did. Today I checked it and it was 32 on, 65 off.

Am a little confused and worried. The service kit with the gauge only gives you low side figures, with ranges like 25-35, 40-45, 50-55, etc.. The gauge swings back and forth when the pump is on or off. Are the above figures for the range when the pump is on, or does the left figure represent the on pressure, and the right figure the off pressure?

As I said, mine now reads 32 on, 65 off at 80F+, which puts the needle slightly into the red danger zone. Did I screw up and add too much freon, and is the cycling every ten to twenty seconds normal? Dick
