I did it and it's done. The ECC just needed some persuasion. What helped was that I used a artist's palette knife and slid the blade in between the lower bezel of the ECC and the center console. I was able to get the knife underneath the two tabs while pushing the unit behind. It finally came out.
I was able to remove the sensor blower by reaching through the radio opening then removed the wire connector and felt around the sensor until I found two "ears" on the barrel of the sensor. Pressing these ears, the sensor pulls right out. After some cleaning, it's working now.
