Torque specs for V70 struts and shocks V70-XC70

For Front Struts:
Removal and installation should be done with a support under the front control arm. Volvo makes a special tool for this...idea is to keep the joint angle minimal at the drive shafts.

With spring still compressed, attach the mounting nut and torque to 70Nm (51.6lb.ft). You'll need a socket and a "counter-hold." Now, remove the spring clamps...slowly. Make sure the spring is seated correctly. Install the spring strut in the bodywork with 3 new nuts (part that goes up through the car and is tightened from under the hood) and tighten to 25Nm (18.44lb. ft).

Install spring strut to the stub axle:
Use new screws and nuts. Tighten to 65Nm (47.9lb.ft) and then angle tighten 90degrees (this means that you eyeball it, tightening another 90degrees).

Install the anti-roll link to the spring strut with a new nut and tighten to 50Nm (36.9lb. ft).

Adjust camber angle and tighten both screws to 65Nm (47.9 lb.ft) and then angle tighten to 90degrees, but then you need an alignment anyway and the alignment place should do this...if they don't know the torque, let them know...but they should.

For rear shock absorbers:
Install the new spring...line everything up...mounting washer guide pin, etc. Install mounting onto the new shock absorbers and tighten to 40Nm (29.5lb ft.)
I'm assuming this is non-nivomat. Nivomat is different depending on size of nut (M12 nut is same as above, but M10 nut is 20Nm (14.75lb. ft)).

After lifting up the trailing arm with a mobil jack, install shock absorber in car by attaching it to the lower mounting and tighten nut to 80Nm (49lb.ft) and upper shock absorber mounting screws to 25Nm (18.44lb.ft). Put everything else back in place in the car...carpet, etc. For the back rest catches, use thread sealant and tighten to 20Nm (14.75lb. ft.)

Keep everything aligned, torque in sequence where there are several screws to tighten and be aware of the springs...checking it frequently to make sure it is seated correctly. Also, while you're at it, VADIS suggests that you should check to make sure that the spring strut mountings, spring seat and the boot and bump stops are not damaged. Depending on mileage of your car I would replace all of the parts that have anything directly to do with your shocks and struts, especially seats.

Guess this is about it...hope I didn't leave anything out....all information was culled from several sections of VADIS.

Hope it helped
