blockage in A/C - what could it be?

I went to have my A/C charged and was told there was a blockage...what would be the most likely cause? Would it be the receiver/dryer, which I can try and change myself....or would it likely be the evaporator? Are there any valves I can easily check? System had been leaking a bit last year, and I suspected it was the evaporator....
