Replacement Tires C70

My Pirelli 225/45ZR17's seem to wear out like the eraser on a cheap pencil. I need to replace two tires now that my Snows are coming off. I know that two more Pirellis would balance out best. But is there a tire that could coexist(on a separate axle of course) that would give me equal or better performance than the Pirelli's?
