I just finished replacing the odometer gear and a bad bulb on my '95 850. I bought the gear w/ the DVD from IPD and the DVD was very good. A couple of tips that would have helped- the odometer is screwed to the cluster with Torx 8 screws. After trying several stores and every little screwdriver I have I finally used needle nose pliers and then ground off some edges on a very small flat-blade screwdriver to get these screws out. The second tip is to try and nestle your dash back into place when you aren't working. I left mine flexed up for too long and have some deformity. I'll probably try a hair dryer/heat gun to mold it back. Also put a rag over the dash brackets that will scratch the cluster face to protect it, it is a very tight fit!
Is there an electronic odometer that will read the correct mileage? I don't plan to sell the car anytime soon, but it will be ~1000 miles off and I don't want to learn the hard way or be accused of anything.
