Ralph:
Just got done changing out the broken gear on my 97 850. Taking the cluster out is pretty simple but you do need to know what you're doing. The hardest part is taking the actual instrument apart and replacing the gear. You need to have a nice clean area to change out the gear. Make sure that you don't get dirt on the inside of the plastic or you'll see it everytime you turn on your lights. While I had the instrument cluster out I did go ahead and replace the 4 big bulbs that light up the dash. It took me about 2 hours to do the whole thing from start to finish and I used the Haynes manual. You can probably get the same info on Bay 13. I prefer to have the manual right out on the front seat with me.
Good Luck!
