Odometer / Tripmeter Failed - Questions...

Update: I removed the entire instrument cluster and had my local mechanic ship it to CA for repair. Total bill was $200 and everything works fine again. Given that the odometer part alone cost $179 (which nobody could gaurantee was the problem), I feel this was definitely the best option.
