If the door doesn't stay open, and the anchor point on the door and the car's body is fine, it's probably the door stop that's broken.

On my '95, I found the door wouldn't stay open, much like you describe. I also heard something loose inside the door.

As it turns out, the torsion spring portion of the door stop snapped off along its axis of rotation, leaving the roller inside the door stop not in contact wiht the door stop strap.

A replacement door stop assembly was purchased from the dealer, installed, and all was well. A quick install, and solved the problem wonderfully.
