Hi - I had the exact problem on my 850 too. With mine it happened when the air was cooler - like under 50 deg F. I rec'd two answers about the problem from this list - one was the PNP and the other was the ignition switch. Since I am new to mechanics, I chose to replace the ignition switch because it was easier to do and the part was cheaper. It did not fix the problem. Just a warning! I'm now going to replace the PNP. There are good directions on the Bay 13 website on how to do it so I'm going to try. Good luck to you. Marcia 1993 850 @174,775
PS: There is also information on this site and others that when the non-start happens to change the shifter back and forth from P to 2nd around 15 times. (that's with the engine off). That is supposed to clean the contacts. It may be a temporary fix for yours.
