A/C Receiver-Dryer

My '94 850 Turbo news a new a/c condenser and the dealer will replace and requires a receiver/dryer as well. A small shop Volvo mechanic says that replacing the receiver/dryer isn't required. Any thoughts on which way to go. The difference is $200.
