Clunking Noise (ball bearing worn?) V70-XC70

Does anyone know what the clunk noise as my v70 goes over a bump. I checked the shocks and they are fine. I read somewhere that ball bearing wear and give the same clunking sound. What is the impact if I do not attend to it.
