If your 850 was a '95 or older you would be able to read the A/C codes through the DTC boxes under the hood, this is where Volvo would get their 3 digit code from. On '96 and newer 850's you need a sophisticated ScanTech type tool with the software for a Volvo in it to read the A/C codes, and these would be displayed as OBD-II codes in the P15xx range. The generic code readers like the Innova 3100 or the Actron 9135 are not going to show the A/C codes for a Volvo. They will show the codes for a Ford, GM, or Chrysler but not the Volvo. The cabin temperature sensors are located behind those little holes right above the overhead grab handles for the driver and front passenger. Try using a vacuum cleaner to suck the dust out of the fan blades and see if that frees them up. Its a good idea to do this at least once a year. They seize up from dust built up on the blades. Good luck.
