Could a throttle problem left unrepaired lead to transmission problem -- 1999 S80? S80 1999

(note: I'd like to log in as new user but have not received password yet.)
Hello! I've been told by Volvo service rep that I need new throttle and new transmission. I brought car in about a month ago for problems I'd been experiencing for a few months, but they ran a diagnostic and couldn't find the source. Now, after new problems have arisen, they've said that what I described being wrong with the car last time could indeed have been the throttle problem but the computer didn't notice it. I'm wondering two things: (1) if the throttle problem not being diagnosed is connected to my new transmission problems, and (2) if I really need a new transmission (based on what I've read on these message boards, maybe not) or should I just repair the throttle and see what happens. My transmission doesn't feel like it's slipping. Thanks for your time.
