20w - 50 oil to slow rear main leak 850

Can using 20w-50 be used to slow a rear main seal leak due to its thickness ? Also, will using a thicker oil like this cause any undo issues for the oil to circulate when the engine is cold?

On a different note, someone responded to my post awhile ago pertaining to blue exhaust smoke that I get after the car is warm and when I'm idling. The explanation suggested a possible valve guide issue. Is this a big job? Is it something I can do myself or does it take special tools?
