1998 S70 T5 questions S70 1998

Welcome. Couple of questions:

Do you have a manual or automatic transmission? Both have problems
asociated with the back up lights. On the automatic it is often
associated with the PNP switch. See this site for the details:

http://volvospeed.com/Repair/tranbackup.htm

I have a 98 S70 T5M (M means manual transmission) and my rear
seat squeeked badly when new. The latch mechanisim was replaced
(under warranty) and the problem has never returned. If you
fold the seats down does the sound go away? If so, it is probably
the seat back latches (which do need to work for safety reasons).
This is not a common problem. I wonder if your car has a similar
build date as mine (mine is January 1997)? The build date is inside
the door frame on the drivers door.

Make sure you bookmark this site:

This is the top level to the page with the note on the reverse
lights. It has a lot of the common problems already described
along with repair procedures and is a great resource.
