Car would not start on a nice fall day after a rest stop on a cross country trip. A highway crew stopped by and one of the guys got under the car and banged on the gas tank and it started right up! He said it sounds like your fuel pump is on the way out! What a hero! It's failed to start twice since then and I do the same thing and it starts right up!. I dont plan to carry a hammer around with me the rest of the car's life, but I thought I would share this for what it's worth. But is it possible that it is something else? I am ready to order a new pump very soon.
