I feel your pain. You are part of an ever-expanding group that no one wants to be associated with. Check out my post from about a week ago. The exact same thing happened with my 2000 V70/XC. I hate to break it to you, but depending on where in the country you live, you are looking at a $900 to $1100 repair that can ONLY be done at the dealer. The reason is that they not only replace the defective throttle control module, but they also download new software into your car's brain and no indy has it.
You can also check out my and other posts about this on www.volvoxc.com under the 1997-2000 forum. It is truly unbelievable. I urge you to call Volvo of North America and log a complaint, the more people that do, the more likely they are to step up to the plate and do the right thing.
Their number is 800-458-1552
Still hoppin' mad
