t-stats 850 1996

...preventative maintenance but an old Volvo TSB once suggested a 70K interval. They often fail (stick open usually) at about 70-80K miles, common.

Anyway, the OEM t-stat runs $20 and isn't too hard to replace. In the old days ('60s-'70s era), they were a 2 yr change interval by most people.
