Greetings. I am a new Volvo person and in need of some advice.

I purchased a used certified 2000 XC in August with 50,000 miles. For various reasons the 2000 XC is the car that I want (actually I'd prefer a 2000 AWD non-XC, but they are rare). Since then the car has had a series of engine problems. The dealer has it back for the fourth time and has asked if I want to "undo the deal" and get my money back (or replacement car and the difference).

Here is a summary of the situation, any advice would be welcome.

1) Within a week of purchase. Check engine light. Oxygen sensor replaced. No fault codes.

2) Within 20 miles the check engine light. Over the next week (waiting for a loaner car) the ETS light and close to stalling. Throttle system replaced. No fault codes.

3) Within 15 miles the check engine light. PCV box found to be dirty and clogged-cleaned. No fault codes. Profuse apologies from the service rep.

4) Within 20 miles the check engine light. This is point at which the service rep. called his manager and the used car manager (and the service rep was clearly quite upset about the situation).

The used car manager wants to have their head mechanic (20 years plus, etc.) look it over and see if he can figure out what's *really* wrong. If I want to "undo the deal" then they will do that. To their credit, they did not insist on finding me a replacement car--that seems to be at my option.

The car will be under warranty through 2005 and I will most likely keep the car until at least 2010, maybe 2015. I have asked for their full records on this car (certification process, any prior service history that they can access, etc.)

Assuming that they can fix whatever it is and the car stops giving fault codes, my quandry is whether to start over with another used 00 XC or stay with this one figuring that at least it has lots of major systems replaced.
