Gear selector failure 850 1995

Mine also has the same problem. I tried to get a mechanic to fix it once, but it was a very difficult fix that would cost ~$250, so I didn't have it done. I've been driving with it as is for years. The problem in my case was not a switch, rather a metal piece that was part of the mechanism had broken.
