Missing in the Rain 850 1995

My first 850 post after many years of 240 ownership...

I bought this '95 855 with a 5 speed and 110,000 miles at a dealership in suburban D.C. I drove it back to SE. Penna. yesterday afternoon -- just flew up I-95 as pretty as you please. When I got to the Penna. state line, it became stormy, and for the next 45 minutes to my home in the showers, the motor would miss at low rpms. For instance, while waiting for a light to change, I'd have to stumble the motor up to around 2500 rpm and then dump the clutch. Otherwise it'd bog, miss, knock and come close to stalling. The motor would run just fine at over 2000 rpm, but getting it up from idle to ~2000 was a challenge. I'm about ready to take it out right now, now that things are temporarily dry again, and see if the missing is gone -- I suspect that it will be.

Now...with my several 240s, when I run into this problem -- low rpm missing and missing upon heavy throttle application, I know it's time to replace the spark plug wires and/or distributor cap because moisture is wreaking havoc. Being in 850 preschool, am I on the right track, or is there something else about the timing control and/or fuel metering on 850s which also gets out of wack in the wet?

Thanks in advance!

Rob Kuhlman
