Everything that he said earlier is on target. My other car (not a Volvo) has a very well known problem with combustion chamber washdown after shutting down a cold engine, where fuel vapor condenses on the combustion chamber walls and can wash oil off of the sealing surfaces. The end result is low compression during the next starting attempt. Owners of those cars learn quickly to run the car for at least a minute to avoid this problem.

This is not the first time that I've heard of Volvo owners complaining about the same condition.
