If my car (1998 V70) is any indicator of normal, I have some bad news. After fixing the ubiquitous vacuum leak on the underside of the intake manifold, I reset my OBD system in late June/early July. (Too bad I couldn't reset my own brain. Maybe my memory would be better ;-)
If I had done my homework, I would have known two things: one, the system may have flipped the check engine light off by itself after X number of driving cycles with no new fault codes being generated; and two, that it take much longer than the two days I had before my registration expired to run through the internal tests of a completely reset system.
If I had wanted an A on my homework, I would have researched further to find out just how troublesome the Motronic (spelling ???) systems in these Volvo are. I ran through three complete cycles of the Volvo accelerated driving test. (It is tedious and just a bit dangerous at times...) No go! I begged State of Maryland for a second extension, got it, and went on vacation. After 2000 miles and about two months, the car still failed the emmissions test for not having the systems ready. (Mind you, there are no fault codes.)
Let me know if you find a secret procedure that works!
