Ted's got the right lead on programming the car to the fob.
Look in the trunk. When you pull the carpet up (as if you were going for the spare), you'll notice a good sized square hole on the left hand side. Look in that hole for a square connector and a small circular connector. That's where the stock changer goes.
The Volvo changers are very simmilar to Alpine models as far as the changer, with an "inexpensive" adapter. If you do choose to get an Alpine over a Volvo, remember to get one with "M-Bus".
