S80 T6 Trans problems S80 1999

99 S80T6 - Latest problem is trans. disengages at highway speed, let of accelerator, engine goes to idle, bring RPM's back up and re-engages. Stop car and start again, will not shift to 1 and 2, start out in 3. Dealer (Calabasas Motorcars) wants $3700 for new trans. I need info on how to get this car fixed cheaply so I can trade it in for a Honda. Help.
