You are hearing your lifters. 850s are famous for noisy lifters when cold. The owners manual refers to it as the "ticking" sound and assures you that all is OK. Others will worry you and suggest you need the lifters replaced or have the valves looked at. It's just an annoying anomoly of 850 ownership....you probably have noticed that once the enigne is warm and under load, the noise disappears....
