I have a 1997 850R and a 1999 V70 wagon, and love them both. I don't know much about the 240, but I would recommend the 850 to anyone. I absolutely love mine despite the somewhat higher maintenance costs. The reason we bought the 1999 V70 was because the 1996 850 T-5R wagon we were considering got snatched up by someone quicker than us.
