JR,
I recently did the Evap change as well. To release the Evap pipes from engine side firewall you have to use the special spring lock tool. I bought mine, with the advise from another Brickboarder Keven, from Snap-on. The part number was ACT118B. The description says they are for Ford vehicles, but they work with the Volvo. Reinstalling the one evap pipe was a REAL challenge. I don't know if it was because I had an aftermarket Evap, but I had a really hard time getting the high-pressure side (small diameter pipe) to line up properly. The low-pressure side was no problem. If they don't line up completely straight they won't go back together. I ended up using a wrench with a towel and hammer on the non-evap side of the pipe to smack the pipe into the evap. For the heater core hoses I just disconnected mine inside the engine bay and did nothing else. I got some fluid inside the passenger compartment so be aware of that. I think other then reconnecting the high-pressure evap pipe, the other really hard task was pulling the heater matrix away from the firewall. You have to make sure the heater box inlet has cleared the opening that is under the cowl. So you have to push down on the heater matrix first. After that you just have to pull like crazy!! Well hopefully your already done by now, considering it's Monday, but if not and you have any other questions let me know.
One of these days I'll get around to labeling the pictures but if you need picture reference of the evap change go to http://www.PictureTrail.com/gid1858370
I hope this helps.
