Can software update break a part? S80

Throttle control modules are well known to go bad in S80's, and V70's. Your throttle body was probably broken before the software upgrade. Chances are the dealer thought that an upgrade would fix the problem and was looking after your best interests (in their mind) in trying to save you money. If you are looking to keep this car get an extended warranty, volvo offers one.
