I have a 1996 850 Turbo wagon and the check engine light came on after I had accidentally hit the winter mode button, too. The gear box fault light also came on, but later went off (flashing arrow). I took it to indy mechanic and he said there was no fault code and that, in fact, the CE light wasn't reading as "on" to the computer. He thinks I have a circuit board fault that is causing my warning lights to come on . Thinks the dash lights are shorting or faulting because of that. In fact, my odo and clock, etc. don't illuminate at night. Only can read them during the day. Suggested dealer look at it. Any further ideas?
