Don't drive it anymore until fixed. First, make sure there's no external leaks like a broken radiator side tank for example. Then, replace the t-stat and try it again.
If there's no external leaks and the t-stat's good, have the cooling system checked with a "block test" which tests the system for a possible head gasket or worse.
