S70 Rear pad Replacement..Can I just replace the rear pads? S70

I have 85,000 mileson my 1999 S70 T5M and was told that I still have around 20% of usable pad on the fronts and 50% usable pads on the back. I am planning to replace front and back next spring. I agree that it is unusual to have more wear on the backs.
