Hi, all
I've recently purchased a second-hand 1998 V70R, with 53000KMs on the
odo. I test-drove the car before I bought it, and noticed a distinct
'ticking' type sound from the engine under throttle. It doesn't do it
when idling, and doesn't do it (at least, not that I can hear) on
light throttle.
The ticking is reasonably quick, doesn't seem to change frequency,
speed, etc. as the car accelerates, so really has me baffled. The car
runs fine, and I had it checked by the RACV prior to purchase. The
RACV found a couple of problems; coolant leak and oil around the
turbo-charger housing. Dealer rectified the problems (I hope!), and
upon re-inspection, the RACV gave it the all-clear.
I've taken out the extended two-year factory warranty so will be
taking it to a local dealer to try and get that noise sorted, but am
just wondering if anyone might have any idea what the heck it is.
Noise seems to eminate from the driver's side. As it doesn't do it
under idle, I can't find it when the car is parked and I have my head
under the bonnet.
Guys, legends, et al, any suggestions? Should I panic yet?
Thanks in advance
SL
