Had engine light, wound up getting EZ Link scanner which showed P1171 code. (prior post) Finally think I had it narrowed down to long-term fuel trim, or some such. However, the weather changed, and the air temp dropped an average of about 20F--after about 300 miles of mixed driving in colder temps, the check engine light went off yesterday. Maybe it was indeed an air mass/mixture- related item, and the denser air in cold weather has reassured the electronic conscience that it's environmentally correct to allow the car to operate. I'm being cagy about explaining to the better half the difference between the perception of need for the scanner and the lack of real utility of the info I gained therefrom. Hell, for all I know, the check engine light went out because I added 5 lbs of air to the tires and improved the fuel mileage.
Nice car, I guess, but I still miss my '56 Studebaker Hawk.
