Front Struts Replacement 850 1996

Your problem is the strut spring retainer cups ( a $26 dealer part for each side). This is fairly common problem for the 850 series.

But since the struts will have to come out to fix this - depending on the mileage, you may want to go ahead and replace the struts as well.
