No, bad struts in themselves will NOT cause uneven tire wear BUT if there's no obviously loose or worn parts like a bad ball joint or tie-rod end, an alignment should definately be performed.
850s do not normally need struts unless there's something wrong with them, rare.
You might want another opinion to get your suspension checked.
