I installed a shortened and threaded OEM shift linkage into my '99 C70. I'm currently driving around w/ my choice between a rare 70's VW ergonomic dark walnut pistol grip shift handle or a smaller dark knob w a "Volvo" emblem inlaid in the top, both off of eBay for around $10. Machine work cost me $50, and I can switch back to the stock knob any time I wish. Oh yes, plus $150 for the new linkage (wanna buy my old one for $100?) and $50 for the plastic ball seat which I broke. Anyways, I can now use anything that's got a 12mm X 1.5 threaded hole in it (I'm looking around for an Apache cyclic, Longbow model preferred... any ideas?). Most of those "universal" shift knobs come with bushings and set screws and adapters and such, maybe you'd get lucky and get a decent fit. If you've got a '00 or up model, you can get the B&M short shift kit from IPD then have it machined before installation.
