After 1.5 hours diagnosis time ($90./hr.) at Volvo of Houston (pretty reasonable I thought for what he had to do), a faulty fuel computer is the only thing not ruled out as the cause of this problem. Dealer price for new part $925. (gulp!!!). Currently searching for a used unit, I have a couple of leads ranging from $100. - $250.
I am telling myself in order to keep sane that the dist. cap, rotor, wires, FPR were about due anyway at 134,000 miles, and I believe I acted on good advice in replacing the AMM since I got the code 1-2-1 twice. Basically I wasted a lot of my time and roughly $40. on parts that did not need replacing - see incomplete diagnosis below (oil trap). I also had to spend (read waste) $162. at an Indy shop for incomplete diagnosis and a broken hood latch cable. So in total I wasted about $200. Lesson learned is to stay clear of this particular Indy shop when faced with really tough problems.
