Can you be a little more specific as to why you think people need to get involved?
What exactly bothers you about your new Volvo now that you'ld already made the purchase?
Computers and diagnostic scan tools are nothing new to any new cars these days and won't be going away.
Bill or no bill, there's no way anything's going to get more "consumer friendly" in regards to cars or many other modern day appliances, electronic devices, etc. At least your new car has a long warranty, far longer than cars 20 yrs ago did (was 1 yr/12K miles then and still is almost everywhere but the US).
As for servicing, there's no contract anywhere forcing anyone to have a car dealer serviced so you're free to take the car anywhere or do it yourself.
