Thanks for the advice. It does make a clunking noise. It is a 1995 Volvo 850 and it has about 90k miles on it. Is this one of the "later" models that requires the entire "A" assembly to be replaced or can we just replace the ball joints?
BTW, I decided to get an alignment because I got new tires and the shop where I purchased the tires didn't have a machine. As for the dealership, I'm sure they were honest with me about something being wrong. But considering that we just had her 90k service done (at another volvo dealership, I might add) just a few weeks ago where they typed on the invoice that they checked out the suspension components as part of the service, it's hard for me to imagine that something like this could just suddenly appear in 3 weeks. Something is inconsistent here and I have to be suspicious of one of the two Volvo dealerships, unfortunately. BTW, I don't walk into a dealership assuming they are crooks (which is why I took it to them for an alignment instead of some chain tire store), but something is not right here.
