Anntena problem again

Well i got the anntena out and opened up the housing. There are lots of little gears in it. I found that the plastic strip with teeth on it is fitting in a plastic housing which i cant open up because of the way its designed. I can pull the anntena up and down and see the teeth on the plastic strip move in an out but despite all my strength, i cant pull the anntena out of the housing. I figured that there are no teeth broken inside so i shouldnt have a problem.

It sure seems strange that i cant pull the anntena out. By the way this is my wife's accord. I look at my S70 and it looks like a similar design.

Any thoughts?
