Key Fob Won't Work 850

I have the rectangular remote with the larger squareish LOCK and smaller rectangular UNLOCK for my 97 850.

I have noticed that if I hold it, keys hanging down, buttons facing me and the back of the fob facing the driver's (or passenger's) door it seems to work better.

I have also noticed that slower, longer pushes on the buttons seem to work better sometimes and quick stabs at the buttons seem to work better other times. No idea why it seems to be such a finicky system.

As a side note, my neighbor can stand in the back yard and unlock their new Toyota RAV4 parked out on the street.
