I have a calibrated boost guage, and was running 15.5psi, but for some reason it was spiking and being eratic at 110mph+ (full boost) and hit 17psi, I am thinking it is a bent rod, not very bad, but it sounds like it is tapping on the block and gets worse as I rev. I new I would be running very very lean, but I did have real 108octane gas, from a gas station that has racing fuel. That is why I think I messed up a rod, because I never felt any hesitation, hear any knocking, and I never got a check engine light. It was just as soon as I was done doing my runs, I rolled my windows down, and was just idling letting the car cool down, and I hear a tapping, and noticed that it got progressivly worse as I rev. The shop diagnosed it as lifter noise, and said my oil pressure levels fluctuated considerably, and they replaced a bunch of o-rings and gaskets. which did not fix the problem, so they replaced the lifters, which also did not fix the problem. They informed me I dont have to pay for any of the items that did not fix the problem, but they are now certain that it is an internal problem related to running to much boost, either a rod, or piston, etc... They have been disasembling my engine as of late this after noon to look at all the internals and get back to me tommorow afternoon. This time I plan on getting a rising rate fuel pressure regulator, and only running 14.4psi of boost. I have a 97 850 T-5 w/ 17x7.5 Moda R4's, and Cross Drilled Cadmium Plated Rotors (KVR) w/ Carbon Fiber Pads, K&N Air Filter, Removed MAF Screen, Relocated Horns, Removed Unecessary Plastic Covering Ducting to Air Box, Iridium Spark Plugs, 2.5" mandrel bent piping cat back, IPD Pod Mounted boost guage, and I turned my wastegate up about 8 full turns to acheive the 15.5-16psi of boost. I figure if I get the new fuel pressure regulator, and a good manual boost controller (dawes devices full racing controller) and only run 14.4psi of boost I should be good enough on fuel mixture. I'll Post results. Also what is a good source for connecting rods for my volvo that will handle ~350hp? Thanks so much
