AC problems 850 1996

OK - drove the car around till the AC started running warm (20 mins) parked it in the Driveway popped the hood. I could detect No audible "Clicking" of the COmpressor kicking in. So I suppose it could be a couple of things, but can this be caused by an "Overcharged" condition. AKA - the pressure is so high, that it never gets low enough for the sensors to send a signal to the compressor to kick in and compress?
